Hope Dies Last

Three games, no goals and two defeats since our fourth manager of the season told his team they couldn't afford to lose again. But for the lemming-like determination of Hull and Sunderland to relegate themselves we would already be down. Some of our players have already given up, most are no longer good enough to do anything about it.

"If we have to go down to the Championship to rid ourselves of the clowns and conmen that pollute the dressing room, that might not be the end of the world," thinks nufc.com. Whatever the financial implications, there's a big part of me that agrees. Better relegation and a clear-out than scraping along the bottom with the likes of Joey Barton in the team. We've been through worse than this and still survived. Players and owners come and go, the football club remains.

Obviously I don’t want to get relegated, but if by some miracle we avoid it we’ve got to be odds on favourites for relegation next season.
What really concerns me is the prospect of becoming the next Preston North End, Blackpool or worse still, Leeds.

Indeed. Still the possibility of a fingernail escape. Or, if we do drop, wtf? Do us good in the long run. We can handle it.

Let's face it, should - by a major miracle - we stay up, we still wouldn't be fit to play in the Premier League. You can only rely on 3 other teams being more rubbish for so long.. it's bound to bite you in the backside eventually. And I don't know if I could make it through another season like this. At least the Smoggies game is the last one we have to sit through for a while.

Well said sir! And Barton - well, I can only apologise...

Didn't Leeds start off by avoiding relegation by the skin of their teeth only to plummet the following year? And if we stay up what's to stop Ashley and Llambias carrying on like before, putting this season down as a one-off, making the same mistakes over and over again like a demented Scouse midfielder?

As for Boro being the last televised torture this season - gah!
The Fulham game is up on Setanta now.. however, if (or rather when) we drop another 2 points against the Smoggies I will risk neither my liver nor my boyfriend's last bit of good will & understanding and certainly not what little is left of my sanity... I've had it!!!!
...standing prayer these days "Please let this be over!"
