Small wonder our education system remains the envy of the civilised world: soon, secondary schools will churn out thousands of monolingual graduates able to wave A* French GCSE certificates in the air while trying unsuccessfully to ask for a coffee with milk.
Which, I suppose, is a slight improvement on talking extra slowly in a very loud voice.
