Under Offer

Up for grabs? Or just the latest media tittle-tattle? On the one hand, it'd be naive to think that Ashley doesn't have his price (and doubling your money in the space of a year is normally seen as quite a wise investment). But the lack of any detail gives the whole thing a definite whiff of make believe: reports suggested (based on what?); it is understood (by who?); sources confirm the US company was interested enough to hold initial talks (I'd be interested too - but it doesn't mean it's ever going to happen).

Unless, of course, that price tag comes down by about four hundred and twenty million quid.

UPDATE: Things are getting silly now.

dismissing the rumours they might (once more) but no smoke without fire??
I still don't trust BigA to be the best for the club... that whole "running it as a business, profit in mind first.. (mind, slashing wages - Jailbait on 63k a week? Smudge? - is not the worst idea) sounds suspiciously as if he would sell it in a second if they price was right... and one day some Yank or Sheik will come up with the sum...
ho hum, interesting times.. hope Kev doesn't make a bee line for the toilets and leaves us with the Menace...

I don't trust any billionaire to be the best for the club. It's all the same in the end: the fans put in, they take out. But I suppose Ashley's a lot better than Glazer or Hicks...the like of who we may yet get lumbered with.

Call me a bloody idiot if you like, but I'm still absurdly optimistic that Ashley's taking a longer term profit view. That's why (if there's any truth in this story) he's putting a price tag of £420 million.

And don't forget, his principal business interest is in sportswear. IF we break into the big four, say over the next four or five years, the club's value will of course increase, but the big bucks will be in replica shirt sales around the world.

I'm a convinced anti-capitalist, and have no illusions whatsoever about Ashley and his motives, it's all about the bottom line for these people.

But, what I keep trying to convince myself of, (and anyone else who'll listen!) is that that might work in our favour as fans. WE want silverware. HE wants a big fat profit. The one will lead to the other.

So it's in Ashley's interest to get in touch with the big four, to get us into Europe - all the stuff I've been dreaming of since I was 8 years old and we won the Fairs Cup. The Beatles were still making records then, you know.

as for the Bin Laden rumour - City got Trashcan Sinatra - sure we can do better ?!?!

never boring this club, innit?!? if there was a title for most & most ridiculous rumours/links sure we'd have filled the trophy cabinet by now?? I wouldn't be too surprised if I woke up to the news that Chaiman Mao isn't dead and has just made Ashley an offer...
